Mari Galloway is the CEO and a founding board member for the Women's Society of Cyberjutsu (WSC), one of the fastest growing 501c3 non-profit cybersecurity communities dedicated to bringing more women and girls to cyber. With over 12 years of Information Technology, 10 of which are in cybersecurity, her experience spans network design and security architecture, risk assessments, vulnerability management, incident response and policy development across government and commercial industries. Mari holds a variety of technical and management certifications (CISSP, GIAC, CCNA, etc) and she regularly contributes content to security blogs and training companies across the country. She also lends her time to various organizations as an award judge, mentor, and advisor. Outside of being a geek, Mari enjoys arts, puzzles, and legos!

Fun Facts

1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I went to high school in Italy. My last two years.

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
Not enough to get status, but I did travel back to the east coast every quarter.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
Alligator here in Vegas, Hubbs loves to get exotic meats.

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?
Running a nonprofit and having amazing mentors.

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
I didn't really have one. I was winging it, but from that I learned it is important to have someone you can lean on and talk through things with.

Walking In Your Shoes

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Take the risks. Don't be scared to fail and fail often. They aren't failures they are lessons on how not to do something.

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I make myself available when I can. Even if it’s just a quick text exchange. I also like to share relevant information through my platform.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
Building a Vulnerability Management program. It was fun learning about the company I was with and building relationships. It also reinforced common themes about project management, leadership, business finance, and presentation skills - all things needed when moving up the chain.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
Professional speaking skills and relationship building. My goal is to be a CISO or something in a position to make an impact on those around me. I want to grow as a people leader that is technical.

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
Asking for what I need and when I need it. I typically just do things on my own because I know how I want them, but to be successful and grow any of my businesses I need to utilize my support team.
